Until quite recently a good red was missing from our range of Summer series alstroemeria, this changed with two new introductions in 2024 Summer Heat and Summer Pepper, both proved to be good but in our trials Heat produced more flowers. Very similar in growth habit to Summer Break but with pillar box red flowers. All Alstroemeria need good free draining soil or compost so be careful not to get them too wet in winter or they will rot, hardy down to around minus 15C.

During this year, we will be offering Summer Heat as:-

Garden Ready Plants in 11cm pots. Orders for these need to be placed by the end of February, after which time we will close our order books. This gives us time to grow them ready for sending out in mid May, at which time they can be planted directly outside.

Jumbo plugs, these will be available to order from early March until the middle of April. Growing Alstroemeria from Jumbo plugs is a great way of saving money for experienced gardeners who can grow them in a heated greenhouse, but they are not suitable for planting straight outside. We recommend planting them into 11cm pots upon arrival and keeping them at a minimum temperature of 12c, by around the middle of May they should be ready for planting outside.

Flowering plants in 3lt pots will be available from late May onwards, but are only for collecting, no mail order.
