The idea to baptize Tulip 'Freedom Flame' came from war veteran Mike Fuller during the commemoration of 2014. Part of the proceeds from the sale bulbs goes towards funding the placing of new benches at Historical sites, plus planting bulbs at Cemeteries and Monuments. Two women from Wieringerwerf, Edith van der Hoven and Want Black, have ensured that from now on the special ‘Freedom Flame’ Tulip is the flower in the great Church in Wageningen. It was baptized by Mayor of Rumond and the English d-day veteran Raymond Lord. The Tulip is grown outside in St. Maarten and has the colours of a flame. The Women come each year to the city where the Forever Fire Burns, to assist in remembrance. " I hope that the Tulip people again consciously let be how good we have it here. That we have freedom and others do not. That should just remain alive, "says Wants Black. "You find people increasingly forget it anyway. And we must not forget, "said Edith van de Bovenkamp.
