Rare Species Lily from China. Not as difficult to grow as some Chinese species, providing it is given the correct conditions, like a well drained ericaceous compost with plenty of leaf mould, in Summer the compost should be kept moist, at all times, but in the Winter it must be almost dry. For this reason we always grow in pots, but if you have a really good, free draining, acidic soil in your garden the bulbs will be equally as happy planted in a border. Plants produce between 1 to 5 bell shaped flowers, which in daytime only have a slight perfume, come evening the perfume gets much more intense, this is most probably to attract night flying insects to pollinate the flowers. Very hardy, heights vary between 50 to 100 Cm's. Supplied as small purple coloured bulbs, which might take a year to get established before they flower.
