Kushi Maya was introduced by H.W.Hyde and Son back in 2008, at the world famous 'Chelsea Flower Show'. It is the worlds first 'Lilium nepalense x Oriental hybrid'. Similar in colour to 'Lilum nepalense', but much easier to grow, bulbs need planting in Acidic soil or ericaceous compost. Produces big, well scented flowers from mid July. Freshly planted bulbs tend to grow between 80-100 cm's tall, from the second year on stems over 1.5 metres tall are quite possible. Bulb size 18 cm + .
Kushi Maya is a interdivisional hybrid, such hybrids are only possible with modern breeding techniques, of which 'Arie Peterse' is a master. At the time he bred 'Kushi Maya' he was working for 'Marklily', since then he moved to 'Vletter Den Haan', where he continues his work, on all types of Lilies. Creating new hybrids from 'Kushi Maya' has been not been easy, but in 2017 we will be introducing two, 'Yin' and 'Yang', we expect great things of them.
