Allium nutans the true species, originates from Russia through to China, Commonly called 'Siberian Chives' or 'Blue Garlic', 45 cm tall flower stems emerge from mid July, each one is topped with a ball on of mauve flowers which is about 6 cm in diameter. All parts of the plant are edible and can you used in many ways. Allium nutans grows from small rhizomes, grass like leaves appear in early Spring and stay until well after the flowers have finished. Great for bees and butterflies which find the flowers irresistible. Likes a good quality, free draining soil, easy to grow and forms clumps very quickly.
