We are currently just starting to list some of our new varieties for 2011, this is 'Lion Heart' a new tango asiatic hybrid.
See Lion Heart for more details, of this variety.
Our 6th display at Chelsea, for which we were awarded a Gold medal, 120 varieties, ranging from huge flowered L.O's right the way down to dainty Martagons, all of which were grown by us, on our own nursery.
During 2009 we were contacted by Max Wilde, who asked if it would be possible to name a Lily after the singer 'Lily Allen', who is one of His clients, we explained that it would be possible but difficult.
During our travels we see many interesting seedlings, of which a selection of pictures were duly forwarded, out of these the Singer selected a vivid orange and black tetraploid Asiatic hybrid, after which a couple of phone calls secured the variety.
Now we only had one problem to overcome, all Lily names are registered with the 'International Lily Register' and you can't name a Lily 'Lily', at the time Kate was in charge of the register, eventually with Kate's help we found a way around the 'Lily' problem, by registering the variety as 'Popstar' with the trade designate 'Lily Allen', hence the full name is 'Lily Allen Popstar'
At last years Hampton Court Flower Show, our display was judged the best exhibit in the floral Marquee, for this we recieved the coverted 'Tudor Rose'.
Kushi Maya has won two awards at this years (2009) N.A.L.S. conference:
The 'Hornback award' for the Lily showing the greatest advance in breeding, plus the 'Hod Hoepner award', for the best Lily grown in a pot.
