Cultural Advice for Alstroemeria

Alstroemeria are very easily grown, they like a well drained fertile soil and full sun or patial shade. They will flower from June to the first hard frost.

The plants should be planted in a sheltered position, and once planted, they are best left undisturbed, in winter it is a good idea to cover the roots with mulch. They are long lived and the clumps should get bigger ever year, often growing over 4 feet across.

Planting Alstroemeria

Plant the young plants to a depth of about 2 inches, this will help them through their first winter, water well after planting and during the summer.

Fertiliser

Top dressing with fertiliser in the spring and once or twice during the summer season, is benificial, we use blood fish and bone.

Picking Flowers.

Alstroemeria make superb, long lasting cut flowers, the stems should be pulled from the plant by grasping the stem halfway down, doing this will encourage more flowering stems to grow.
