A variety with two names, in 2009 it was called 'Purple Fountain', now it has been renamed 'Hotline', (by the breeder, not us !), produces lots of medium sized flowers which are about 16 Cm's in diameter, nice strong stems which grow to about 90 Cm's from newly planted bulbs and about 1.2 metres when established, one real benefit of this variety is that the purple edge is stable in hot weather, unlike the flowers of the old variety 'Brasillia', which can turn pure pink, flowers late July onwards. An interesting second generation Oriental x nepalense hybrid. We first saw this variety in a batch of unnamed seedling's that originated from the discontinued breeding programme of 'Sande'. At the time we asked about buying it, but when nothing come of this, we thought it had been lost forever. Then in the Spring of 2012 we were offered bulbs of a new variety called 'African Lady'. We looked at the picture, that our supplier sent us and thought this looks familiar, then when we were told that it originated from 'Sande' things began to click into place, it is the hybrid we admired a few years ago. During the Chelsea show of 2012 we included 3 plants in our exhibit, they were much admired by visitors. So far we have found it very easy to grow, very strong stems and not too tall, only 80 Cm's in the first season, how tall established bulbs will grow, we don't know yet.

The true 'Tiger Lily', one of the easiest to grow of all species Lilies, very vivid, orange Turk's Cap flowers, which are heavily spotted with black, flower size about 10 Cm's in diameter, easily identified by the stem bulbils, which are produced in large numbers, first year height about 90 Cm's, can grow to about 1.5 metres when established, flowering time late July.
